"In what ways does your music magazine use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real music magazines?"
-Before creating the magazine I read and researched many genres of music magazines to acknowledge and understand the main changes within them whilst appreciating the similarities and techniques used within the particular style of magazine. The magazine I believe that relates to mine effectively is “Vibe” as mine follows many of the same conventions. For the front cover I have a single singer as the main image in mid shot on the front cover, shadowed text for headlines and side bars, a hidden masthead (covered by the main image) and mainly a specific colour scheme which runs throughout the page. My chosen colours are turquoise and pink as I believe them to fit the ideals of the target audience, however “Vibe” includes peach and blue.
I used a narrow font like most magazine mastheads, as I believe it is more aesthetically pleasing and suits the style well, therefore my choice was the downloaded font Macropsia BAK, as I feel that, whilst being a narrow font, it also adds some style to the magazine cover.
The positioning of my text and images, greatly follows the conventions perceived by “Vibe” and the mise-en-scene conveyed in my image from no eye contact between the model and reader does not draw them away, because she is looking towards the text it invites the reader to the headlines as opposed to directly to the eyes of the image.
However, similarly to most styles of magazines, I made sure to include anchor lines, buzz words and a bar code to fill the typical conventions of a magazine.
